In 1979, the College began to enroll students engaged in further studies. In 1984, it began to matriculate adults hoping to gain academic degrees or certificates. To meet the society’s requirement for art graduates, the College decided to enroll more students. Now it has more than 2000 students working for certificates and about 3000 students just hoping to polish their art skills.
In accordance with the social requirements, the College has constantly improved its specialties, adjusted its teaching programs, and optimized its curriculum. After twenty years of development, it has established two specialties: ‘Plastic Art’ and ‘Art and Design’. The specialties have a wide range of academic emphases: Environmental Art and Design, Visual Communication Design, Animation Art & Design, Illustration Art & Design, Modern Illustration & Design, Painting, Integrated Fine Arts, and Art Education. The teaching quality of the College is highly acclaimed.
The School boasts of excellent Teachers and professional Designers. It stresses the integration of classroom teaching and hands-on practice. Also, it emphasizes the cooperation with business and so hopes to create platforms for students’ graduation fieldwork.
In accordance with the features of Continuing Education, the School opened all kinds of training classes, such as short-term training class, self-taught learners’ training class, training class for students engaged in further studies, training class preparing students for entrance exams, and training class for Children’s Art Education.
The School stresses academic research and creation, thus hopes to bring the quality of teaching to a high level. In the state-level and province-level competitions, teachers and students of the school have won a host of prizes. In 2005, the paintings of 136 teachers and students were chosen for the province-level and the nation-level art exhibitions. Some students of environmental art entered their works for China Environmental Art & Design Award and won the Gold Medal for five years on end. The students of Interior Decoration distinguished themselves in the design of the theme poster for the 8thNational Ethnic Group’s Traditional Sports Meet and the design of the publicity poster for the 16thAsian Games. It established Visual Art & Design Studio, and cooperated with the organizing committee of the 16thAsian Games, Guangdong Provincial Meteorology Bureau, and South TV Station so as to combine design projects with research projects. Also, the School organized academic and intellectual activities in order to enliven the cultural atmosphere and enhance the students’ overall human qualities.
